During Veteran's Day our class learned about what a Veteran is and how they support our country. We also learned about the organization A Million Thanks. This organization supports our active, reserve, and veteran military by sending millions of letters of thanks and encouragement directly to our service members stationed in our country and around the world. Together we brainstormed positive messages that we could send to our active, reserve, and veteran service members that would make them feel appreciated and happy. The students were SO excited to know that their letters would be going to someone directly and making a different in their life. They wrote many positive messages and words of encouragement saying thank you to our service members for all that they do for us and our country. I am positive that their heartfelt messages with put a smile on someone's face! You can find out more about this wonderful organization by clicking on the link below: http://amillionthanks.org/send_a_letter.php In the spirit of Thanksgiving, our class talked about the things we're thankful for this week. We discussed that Thanksgiving is a historical holiday, as well as, a time for us to reflect on our lives and appreciate all of the positive things we have such as friends, family, an education, shelter, food and water, a bed, etc. We thought back to our conversation on Halloween about UNICEF and the children who don't have proper food, shelter, clothes, drinking water, etc. around the world and discussed how we are so fortunate to have all the basic necessities that we need and more.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and you family! This morning, as a class, we talked about and established our class expectations. On Monday I will be sending home a behavior contract for your family to review and sign. This simply states that you and your child are aware of the class expectations and consequences hierarchy, should any of the expectations not be upheld. Below are some pictures of what the students determined makes a good student and a good teacher, as well as, our class expectations.
The first day of school was a success! It was a pleasure meeting and getting to know each of the students. The extra supplies that were brought in with your child were placed in a ziploc bag with their name on it. Any extra supplies at the end of the year will be sent home. A few important things to keep in mind moving forward:
